HOW TO START

To sponsor a candidate YOU must:

· Be a Cursillista. (Someone who has attended a 3-Day weekend)
· Be active in your church.
· Be willing to commit to your pilgrim

Here is a good way to get started:

· Get to know your friend well.
· Talk to God about your friend before talking to your friend.
· Talk to the community/Pastor about your friend.
· THEN talk to your friend.

Sponsoring a person to Via de Cristo has many responsibilities.
Here are some important ones:

  1. Provide the candidate with information. Answer all his or her questions honestly.
  2. Be certain that the pilgrim application is complete and turned in before the deadline.
  3. It is your responsibility to get the pastor’s approval for the pilgrim.
  4. Write a palanca letter to your candidate.
  5. Drive your candidate to the weekend on time (allow time for registration and for your candidate to settle in) and stay with them until a signal is given for you to leave your candidate and the grounds.
  6. Drive your candidate home after the weekend.
  7. Check in with your candidate a few days after the weekend.
  8. Attend with your candidate(s) the Grand Ultreya.
  9. Pray for your candidate(s) before, during, and after the weekend.

Who would be a good person to attend a VDCWW Weekend?

Applicants should:
· Be currently active in a church
· Be at least 21 years of age
· Be an active or a potentially active community or congregation leader
· Be endorsed by both the sponsor and the Pastor

When you are considering a candidate for VDC, bear in mind the influence he or she will have on others, in addition to the good he or she will derive from VDC for self. Be hesitant about sponsoring someone who is not active in his or her congregation. This does not mean the person must be on church council or a Sunday school teacher, etc. But he or she should worship regularly and participate in some area of church life.

Submitting a Pilgrim Application:

· Make sure the pilgrim (or you can do it for them) fills out the pilgrim online application.
· Fill out the Sponsor form and include payment for your candidate. (You can pay online)
· Mail the application and payment (if you are sending a check include in envelope) to:

Via de Cristo of Western Washington
